My name is Tony DeFazio, and I teach 8th grade Language Art at Sedgefield. I am originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, but I have lived here for the past eight years, and I am happy to call Charlotte my home.

My background is not in teaching, but instead in sports writing. I spent the past 18 years as a sports writer, including the last 13 as the editor of several sports publications. Although I am new to the teaching profession, I am excited to bring my work experience into the classroom. I can assure you that I am dedicated and committed to contributing to your children's education.

My classroom is centered around three specific ideals: Respect, responsibility and readiness. Our scholars will show respect for the teacher and for their fellow students. This respect will be a two-way street, beginning with me. I will respect each and every scholar; I ask that they show respect to me as well as their fellow scholars. Scholars are expected to be responsible for their own work. This includes in-class assignments as well as any homework. Finally, scholars must be ready to work the moment they walk into the classroom. They must prepare and be ready for any tests or quizzes. The of culture success we hope to establish is dependent not only on the teacher’s readiness to instruct the students, but also on the students’ preparedness.

Sedgefield has very talented and caring 8th grade language arts teachers, and I am proud to be a part of their team. I'm even more excited -- and honored -- to be given the responsibility of participating in your child's education. It's a responsibility I take very seriously.
